Lindley Hall Renovation

Lindley Hall east entrance in fall

KU announced an extensive renovation of Lindley Hall beginning in fall 2023, which will transform the 80-year-old building into an updated and revitalized home for students, faculty, staff and researchers in Geology, Geography and other departments. In addition to creating fresh, modern interior spaces, the renovation will also include repairs to the foundation and replacement of heating and cooling systems. Due to the extensive work required, classrooms, labs and office spaces in Lindley Hall will be temporarily moved to EEEC (Slawson and Ritchie halls) and Malott Hall during the renovation.

KU Space Management in partnership with Facilities, Planning and Development, Facilities Services and other campus units has undertaken a renovation of spaces in Malott Hall to accommodate classes, office spaces and other needs of departments that will be moved during the renovation of Lindley Hall. Fall 2023 classes have been relocated to newly created classrooms in Malott. Renovations of office space for faculty and department offices in Malott Hall will be completed during the fall semester. It is expected that all Malott Hall offices will be ready for occupancy by Oct. 1, with some being available sooner. KU Space Management and FPD are working directly with department chairs and faculty to support their individual relocation timelines and needs.

We will continue to post updates here as the project progresses. For more information on this project, contact us at spacemanagement@ku.edu.

Updates

Restrooms in Lindley will be taken out of service in stages beginning Nov. 20 as work progresses to replace the sanitary waste piping throughout the building. The work plan is to begin with the south wing, starting at the fourth floor and work down to the basement before shifting to the north wing. The work will take restrooms out of service in each area, and they will not be returned to service until the forthcoming project to renovate the restrooms occurs.

The contractor is still working on developing the detailed construction schedule but it is anticipated that all south wing restrooms will be out of service by mid-December. The basement restroom will remain in service for as long as possible.
